I will be away until mid-February taking photographs in the small South Pacific nations of Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. The journey will focus on landscape photography, underwater images, volcano photography as well as documenting the fast-growing impacts of climate change on those isolated nations. I intend on providing occasional reports via my blog.

Conditions for outdoor enthusiasts remain ideal all over the Rockies. Have a look here for images of the Lake Louise Ski World Cup, a tour of the world-famous Banff Springs Hotel, and a visit to Mount Norquay to enjoy the company of bighorn sheep and the full moon!

Just added this blog to the website. This new addition is not only dedicated to photography, but also to the geology and history of our dear Canadian Rockies, and to wilderness-related topics worldwide.

My aim is to have a weekly posting called "Hoodoos and Hobnails". The name aims to represent what will be the general content of the blog: hoodoos are geological features found widely around the world, while hobnails are short nails that used to be installed on early mountaineering boots. The typical format of those entries will feature a particular mountain and a quick photo tip.

The editors of explore Magazine have chosen my image of winter camping in the Kananaskis area for the cover of their November/December issue. Other images had been considered for past covers but never quite made it. Nice to finally get it! Look for the magazine on newsstands starting November 16th.

The province of British Columbia is famous for the diversity of its landscapes and during the moody month of October, it is also characterized by an astonishing variety of weather conditions. This latest album takes you from the cold heights of Yoho National Park to the warm shores of Lake Okanagan.

As shown by this new album, weather has been nothing short of wild lately in and around the Canadian Rockies. Fall was very short-lived and already the valleys are blanketed in white and the temperature has dropped to - 25 Celsius.
